Veddesta industrial area is being relocated, and the site is due to be transformed with the construction of an underground railway, a new city centre and several residential neighbourhoods. It will take some time, however, before the new area is fully developed.

The project is focused on having a strong inherent identity, standing as a solitary structure to be gently incorporated as a landmark in this new district. It operates on a large scale, occupying two residential quarters at the heart of the industrial site. From its maximum height of eleven storeys, the building is terraced down to a single level.

The building wraps around a large atrium. The size of the atrium creates a sense of living by a park and offers extraordinary access to greenery and recreation.

The size of the atrium allows for a natural balance between private and common. The ground-floor flats all have the option of adding a private plot, like traditional terrace houses. At the centre of the atrium lies the common park with pools, paths, trees and shrubs. The atrium and the park are open to the west, where woodland further links the development to green rather than industrial values.

The design of the flats is defined by a core concept of similar versus different. They are all based on the same type of box with a fully glazed section facing the atrium. In this regard, they are similar. However, the individual boxes are clearly distinct. The flats vary in size, causing the boxes to vary in depth. The terraced structure also contributes to the varied expression and to the unique character of each individual flat.
